Vehicle Permit FAQs
What is the difference between a National Permit and a State Permit?
A State Permit allows a vehicle to operate only within one state, while a National Permit (All India Permit) allows goods carriages to operate across all Indian states and union territories. National permits involve higher taxes but give unrestricted interstate movement.
Which vehicles need a National Permit?
All goods carriages used for interstate transport must have a National Permit. This includes heavy goods vehicles, light goods vehicles, tankers, and container trucks. Passenger vehicles typically use tourist or contract carriage permits instead.
How long is a National Permit valid, and when should I renew?
A National Permit is generally valid for 5 years. We recommend starting the renewal process at least 30 days before expiry to avoid penalties or vehicle detention at state borders.
Can I get a permit if my vehicle is registered in another state?
Yes. Permits can be obtained for vehicles registered anywhere in India. However, in some cases an NOC or additional state-specific documentation may be required. Our team handles the complete process for you.
Do you help with permit tax payment and renewals?
Absolutely. We calculate the applicable permit tax and green tax, pay it online on your behalf, and file the renewal application. We also send you timely reminders before your permit expires.
What happens if I operate without a valid permit?
Operating without a valid permit attracts heavy fines, vehicle seizure, and potential suspension of the vehicle's registration. It can also void your insurance in case of an accident. Always keep your permit current.
